Agree or Disagree?

Quick and easy today...

Tell me in the comments if you agree or disagree with the following statement.

In five years, 85% of what we read on the Internet will be in video format.

Interesting, right? I read this somewhere (of course now I can't remember where) and thought, man, I'd better get to vlogging. :)

Happy Tuesday!

  1. I disagree. I hate a news story that is only in video form and not in text. There are a lot of places I can't or don't want to watch a video. Plus I can skim an article, which I can't do with a video. Think of the local news. People don't watch it like they used to. They read shorter snippets of news online.

    1. That's true Julie! I'm a big skimmer too. :) And I never watch the news from start to finish. Valid points!

  2. I disagree. Julie makes valid points. I think there is room for both the video and print media on the Internet. I think the trend in writing for the Internet is to make it short and make it interesting. People's attention spans are getting shorter all the time due to the sheer volume of information they have to choose from. If you want them to land on your page and stay long enough to get the message you want to get across, it's going to have to be short, sweet, and memorable.

    1. I couldn't agree with you more, Erica on the the "short" point. One of the reasons I love, love, love your blog, (Julie's blog, Jaime's blog, etc.) is because they're short! I can read it, interact in the comments and be about my day.

But it leaves me wondering, why are vlogs so dang popular right now? Do we just like to have a face and a voice to go with the text? Hmmm...

  3. I think I disagree as well. Although I have read somewhere (I don't remember where either) that vlogging is an important part of your platform building because it shows potential agents and publishers/ediors that you've got a good speaking presence.

    1. Hi Heather, I think I've read that as well. Shows your versatility, I guess. :)

  4. I hope not. That sounds tragic! I, like, Julie can skim an article much faster and I like that!

  5. I disagree. Why? I watch my college daughter and her friends. They don't make calls, send video clips, or Skype all that much. They text, showing me the written word is still where it's at. At least I hope so. =)

    1. Texting is huge. I love texting for the sheer convenience of it. I hope videos don't take over either...85% seems way high. (Now I have to try to remember where I read that statistic!) :)

  6. I disagree too. I get impatient with videos sometimes...I can read something so much faster. And fast seems to be the name of the game in today's society. :)

    1. I usually click out of longer videos too. Unless they really have my attention, but I must admit, I'm drawn to vlogs. Maybe I just like to get to know my online friends more intimately and putting voices and mannerisms to the words makes me feel like I know who they are. :)

  7. I hope not! Thats crazy! Though I can see how it is headed that way and I hate it! Most video clips annoy me. Its a sad testimony to the state of the world that we are too lazy to read anything more than a headline to get the facts.
