Who Do You Want To Be?

I think most of us have a trait or two that we dislike about ourselves.

Something we want to change but for one reason or another, it has become a stronghold for us. A place of perpetual doubt. Something we hang on to for dear life.

I know I do.

I am far to worried about what other people think of me. And not only that, but what I think other people think of me. And sometimes it's crippling.

But the person that I truly want to be is a person whose confidence comes from God alone. Not in my abilities. Not in what others think of me. But someone that is grounded in the truth that God's opinion of me is the only one that matters. The only one I should be concerned about.

Oh, how life would be different if we were able to free ourselves from the things that bind us, the things that keep us from truly being free.

I love this song by Switchfoot. (It reminds me of that old Mandy Moore movie...Darn it. I can't think of what it's called right now.) I love it because it asks us, "Are you who you want to be?"

Such a thought provoking question. Are you who you want to be? Because we only have but an instant on this earth. If we want to change something...NOW is the time to do it!

Share with me: Who do you want to be? What is something you would like to change about yourself?

  1. I've been there! I used to replay simple conversations over and over in my head, second guessing everything I did. It was crippling. I think It has gotten better over the years, but I definitely still have my moments. Right now, my biggest struggle is probably anxiety. I think being a parent has made it go into overdrive, and I'm trying to learn that I need to hand everything over to God, especially the things that are so precious to me -like my family.

  2. Lacie, I think we're kindred spirits. I echo what you've said here. I wish I did a better job of seeking my confidence from the Lord, but all too often I look to others for approval and battle the doubt dragon. You'd think at my age, I'd be getting better, more mature, wiser, but I'm a work-in-progress who needs some serious "editing."
